Last year we planned a really simple way to tackle the bulk of our Christmas shopping. We were as organised as Santa’s elves, but we only worked for a single day and in one location; Wainwright’s Yard in Kendal.
It worked – so we want to share it with you. Here are our top tips…
Start with a really good list
Make some time to sit down with friends or family to write your list. Include everyone you buy a gift for, a firm idea of what you want to buy for each person (or what they like) and a price tag you’re happy to spend. What did we do? Planned it over a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie from Booths.
Set a date for your Christmas Shopping trip to Wainwright’s Yard
Know when you’re coming, who with, and what you need to bring. You can find location information and lots of different parking options if arriving by car here. What did we do? Parked in Booths supermarket and arrived really early to beat the crowds and enjoy the day.
You’re here. What next?
As well as looking for gifts for others, take a little time to embrace the festive spirit and plan in your pit stops. Try sharing mezze boards, platters and homemade cakes at Pomegranate & Sage deli. Work your way through the festive menu at Pizza Express with one of our favourites – ‘snowball dough balls’ or pop into Slate Bar for a mulled wine or cocktail – we recommend ‘winter old-fashioned.’
In need of some fresh inspiration for present ideas?
Look out for…
Armstrong Ward for traditional wooden toys, Maileg collectables, Christmas candles – Neom, Lakeland Gingerbread and SKOG (which reminds us of freshly cut Christmas trees). There’s also John Sankey furniture and Emma Bridgewater pottery. Maya Maya for women’s scarves, shawls, handbags or even to treat yourself – let the ladies help you create your own Christmas wish-list. Crew Clothing Company for a classic British made chunky knit or hat for your other half, and La Maison for on-trend home decor, furniture and jewellery.
Many of our shops are small independents, so we’re all really grateful for any local shopping support.
Have a wonderful Christmas. With love from the Wainwright’s Yard family.
