Fancy trying your hand at the art of cocktail making? Get that perfect shaker technique and learn to make your favourite tipple with the team at Slate Bar and café in Wainwright’s Yard, Kendal.
The atmosphere in the bar is cool and their fun and friendly ‘masterclasses’ are about an hour and a half long; they’re great for teaching you all the skills you need to host an event at home. They could also be a great addition to a work party, hen or stag do, friends gathering or birthday celebration. Just take it in turns to make your three or four cocktails together in the upstairs bar. Then enjoy drinking them all in-between…
Start your morning with a Bloody Mary, then finish your evening with a Miss Morgan Martini – just an idea! Here’s some we’d like to try:
It’s the Bar’s current favourite – a Miss Morgan Martini: Stolichnaya vanilla vodka, passoa, pineapple and lime.
For those who like a gin – here’s a Bramble: Bombay Sapphire, lemon, creme de cassis and crushed ice.
And more those who like more gin, a Cucumber and Elderflower Collins: Bombay sapphire, cucumber, apple juice, lemon and St. Germain elderflower liqueur.
Slate Bar and café also serve great Carvetti coffee which is roasted here on the doorstep in Cumbria. And there’s a load of juice-based cocktails and other refreshing drinks if you want to keep your alcohol limit down.
We’d recommend pairing your masterclass with some food; the team have some lovely rustic platters you can tailor to your tastes. Nibbles include Staff of Life bread, olives, pickles, cheeses, houmous and charcuterie – serrano hams, chorizos and salamis.
Slate Bar and café is open 7 days a week from 10am – 11pm. There’s no cost for the masterclass – the price simply covers the usual cost of the cocktails (which range from £4 – £7.50).
