Let’s face it, here in Kendal we are utterly spoilt for great places to eat. Kendal has very few ‘chain’ restaurants and most are independents.
A couple of weeks ago, I was in ‘Italian’ Switzerland and while there we ate great pizza, but it wasn’t a patch on our ‘local’ pizzeria – Pizza Express in Wainwright’s Yard.
It’s funny, I don’t class Pizza Express as part of a national chain as it always feels so local. This is a huge credit to the staff who are always superb!
My son and I visited during the early part of the Easter Holidays and we quite simply had a very lovely time. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they are brilliant at making sure the children are catered for. Plus with the new Spring Menu there are some awesome sounding additions:
“Make date night a great night with our spring pizzas. Which will you choose? Our ever-popular spicy Barbacoa and creamy Margherita Bufala are making a comeback, and we’ll be saying “well hello” to a new vegan pizza – the Vegan Mezze – a delicious combination of chargrilled aubergine, spicy harissa and creamy houmous.
So what else is new? Starters include Rosemary & Garlic Flatbread with Houmous and the Burrata Italia – a rich, creamy-centred cheese served on peppery rocket, with chargrilled aubergines, artichokes & slow-roasted tomatoes.
Pud-wise we have Eton Mess ‘PizzaExpress’ and our Warm Lemon Sponge Cake, sponge with a soft lemon curd centre, served with vanilla gelato and fresh raspberries.”
My son and I tend to be creatures of habit though and he went with Doughballs to start and the ‘white’ pepperoni pizza.
This is for children who don’t like the tomato sauce, so just comes with cheese, it seems it is very common though and never too much trouble, just ask for your child’s pizza without the tomato base sauce.
He finished off with an ice-cream and ‘Bambinoccino’ warm frothed milk with chocolate sprinkles.
As always in Pizza Express – a very content child!
I went for the ‘American Hot’ that isn’t really all that hot, just a nice warming heat for an early evening meal + of course an ice cold Peroni, not forgetting a generous splash of Green Tabasco!
In my opinion, this is the best pizza in town. It’s consistently superb, always served with a smile, and the restaurant has a great vibe!
We booked using the app, again, it’s superb. It has all the information you need and special offers of the day/week to help you decide and whet the appetite before you even arrive!
So that is Spring at Pizza Express Kendal. We are now very much looking forward to Summer so that we can sit outside and eat al fresco!
