Alfresco dining Kendal

We’re home to little courtyards, cobbles and beautiful stone walls – so when the sun shines, there’s certainly an alfresco dining vibe in the Yard. Here are some of our top places to sit outside and grab a bite to eat.

Pizza Express’ new summer menu includes new starters; garlic king prawns and a vegan pea, broad bean and mint arancini. New Romana pizzas stuffed with fresh vegetables, and a passion fruit and orange meringue tart for dessert. If you fancy cooling down with an ice-cold drink, an elderflower spritzer and a prosecco gin fizz are their newest tipples.

At Booths supermarket you can try their café with a seating area outside – head downstairs in the store and you’ll step out onto a quaint little courtyard – serving delicious main meals, cakes, fresh fruit pots and afternoon teas for two; enjoy egg mayonnaise, tuna mayonnaise and ham sandwiches, with freshly baked in-store scones, served with miniature Bonne Maman jam pots and Rodda’s Cornish clotted cream.

These beautiful slate and wooden seats are hidden between Booths and Pizza Express and they’re perfect for a quick lunchtime eat – we grabbed a Booths meal deal, 4 items for £4, and sat with a little one – there’s a spotty dog lunch bag of evidence here where we nibbled together in the sunshine.

If you’re planning to takeaway and to eat outside at home, there’s plenty to buy in the Yard too. Here’s some perfect garden party inspiration.
