Wainwright’s Yard is an award winning, custom designed shopping area in the heart of Kendal. Designed and maintained by the Eric Wright Group, it has brought quality, high end shopping to a historic yard at the heart of the town centre.
Formerly Yard 28, it was re-named Wainwright’s Yard, in memory of the former Kendal borough treasurer Alfred Wainwright (1907-1991) who achieved worldwide fame for his handwritten and hand-drawn Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells.
These works of art have motivated fell walkers for the past forty years and recently inspired the BBC series ‘Wainwright’s Walks'. They were also hugely inspirational in the design of the shopping yard itself and a number of pages from the walking guides have been reproduced on slate slabs in the public square.
Rarely does shopping marry so well with open space and a breathtaking environment. Where else can you stand in Wainwright’s footsteps and gaze upon the Lake District fells before indulging in a light lunch or enjoying some retail therapy?
Wainwright’s Yard offers shopping at its best.
