La Maison, meaning ‘the house’ in French, was one of the first stores to open in Wainwright’s Yard. Independent and locally owned, it’s an elegant curation of contemporary European style. Here you will find things for your home, and for you.
Alongside an excellent assemblage of purses, scarves and jewellery, furniture, glassware, crockery and cards, the mainstay of the store is a range of well-made, handcrafted, solid oak furniture. Dining room tables, chairs and benches, chest of drawers, cabinets, consoles and small desks are on display in this lovely, light-filled store with mezzanine floor. Think chunky, heavy tops and affordable prices.
Featured brands include Sia, Linum and Parlane. The owners also showcase regional producers like Taylor Made Ceramics and Repeat Repeat, whose bone china tableware is handmade in Staffordshire.
La Maison also boasts a great choice of distinctive greeting cards. One of the ranges, Art Press, features the work of new and established printmakers, illustrators and fine artists.
Should you be looking for a bit of adornment, there’s a great assortment of jewellery from the likes of Joma Jewellery and Tutti & Co (who also contribute to the hard-to-resist selection of scarves).
“This is a store is well worth swinging by – expect to see statement vases, stylish artificial flowers, and all that you need to dress your home. La Maison’s staying power is due to its combination of striking yet affordable pieces.”
