In this contemporary eatery-come-deli, you’ll find fantastic salads, soups, sandwiches, cakes and amazing food from around the world. Owner Tony says his ever-changing menu is a love song to Yotam Ottolenghi. So you could start the day with a homemade granola, yoghurt and berry compote, make a brunch of a fritta, lunch on mezze board, platters and salads of beetroot and orange, Biryani rice, green lentil, red cabbage and bean dressed with a hint of honey. Hot options include lamb Bobotie, a traditional South African curried mince dish, creamy garlic mushrooms on artisan toast – both accompanied by salads. Tony’s quiches get rave reviews too.
If you are after ‘afters’ or you’re calling in for a cuppa and cake, you may have to choose between Middle Eastern fruit loaf, gooey lemon shortbread, raspberry and chocolate brownies or a three-tier vanilla and chocolate cake with lemon cream.
High calibre local suppliers include tea from sommelier Dorothy Stubley, bread from More, Staff of Life and Lovingly Artisan, ice cream from the Handmade Ice Cream Company and meat from Todds. You will also find local names on Pomegranate & Sage’s store cupboard shelves, like Lakeland Mues, who produce award-winning toasted muesli
It’s a wonderfully relaxed, friendly place to settle with your laptop, friends, family or pooch – surrounded by brilliant shopping in Wainwright’s Yard.
