Shop small, support local

The Campaign Shop Independent has declared this "the summer of small business love" so we're spending a moment celebrating the treasured independents right here in Wainwright's Yard.

One of the first stores to open in Wainwright’s Yard, and much-loved by locals and visitors alike, Armstrong Ward is owned and run by Jacqueline and Andrew Ward. They carefully curate much-loved British brands alongside smaller makers and artisans for a shopping experience that is unique.

Tucked away just off Kendal’s high street here in Wainwrights Yard, the store boasts two floors of bespoke furniture, homeware, toys and gifts. You can shop in-store, online, click & collect or with a virtual personal shopping experience.

Lakeland Kitchens cover the wider lakes area from Lancaster to Windermere and up to Carlisle, and from Kirkby Stephen to Barrow-in-Furness. Their expertise shows from the initial design stage and throughout the supply and installation of your bespoke kitchen.

With over three decades of experience, they draw inspiration from our stunning Lakeland surroundings to craft gorgeous kitchens.

The increase in the packaging used for food has grown exponentially in our lifetimes. Unfortunately, this is not without cost to the planet and its ecosystems. Another Weigh is a dedicated zero-waste shop in Wainwright’s Yard, Kendal. It’s dedicated to reducing waste and improving our shopping habits.

The concept is simple. Bring your own containers, fill them and pay by weight. When they are empty, bring them back and refill them. By re-using, you will reduce waste. Another’s Weigh’s aim is to do this at as low a cost as possible – to both customers and the planet. All profits go to their charity Another Way.

As the Campaign Shop Independent points out in its vibrant new graphic, there are multiple benefits to shopping local. We hope to see you shopping with our independents soon.
