Who’s new on the Yard

Kendal Lions charity bookstore, quoted as being “there as a community support” by charity member Alyson Audsley, can now be found nestled amongst some of the town's finest eateries and lifestyle and home-furnishing stores here in Wainwrights Yard.

Part of an international organisation, the Kendal Lions Club prides itself on its contributions to the local community. Most notably, it donated funds to help create a pleasant and inviting garden space at the Westmorland General Hospital, held therapeutic swimming sessions at the local leisure centre, and founded the Young Leaders in Service project, encouraging young people to contribute positively to society.

Open Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, 10 am until 4 pm, the volunteers of this particular bookstore are just as keen to keep you chatting as they are to sell you a summer read. However, if a book or two catches your eye, have no fear for your bank account, as this charity asks for the most minimal donations.

Starting at 50 pence a novel, look for a tantalizing page-turner, a reliable classic, or even a pop-up book for a little one at home. And if that’s not entertaining enough, this new store is also known to stock enough DVDs and board games to keep you and your family entertained on a rainy Cumbrian day.

In fact, knowing our weather, you might have to buy yourself a whole British summer’s worth. Good job that it’s so affordable!
