Meet Elsewhere Bar: A Taste of Spain in the Heart of Kendal
As part of our series, ‘People Behind the Businesses in Wainwright’s Yard’ we meet Mark Weighman, owner of Elsewhere Bar.
The idea behind Elsewhere Bar was born from owner Mark Weighman’s love of Spanish culture, cocktails, and community. Mark has been visiting Spain since childhood, falling in love with the lifestyle, and as an adult exploring the country’s cocktail bars and the artistry behind them. During lockdown, Mark had a chance to experiment with cocktail recipes and, coming out of lockdown, realised Kendal was missing an authentic cocktail bar with soul. As soon as 5 Wainwright’s Yard became available, Mark’s vision for Elsewhere Bar fell into place.
The Team
Mark says the Elsewhere Bar team is like a family, and includes Lottie who has been part of the journey from day one, offering ideas and support behind the scenes and Bekki. Verity, the youngest, is ambitious and full of inventive cocktail ideas.
The Bar
Rustic and welcoming, Elsewhere Bar serves cocktails made on the spot with fresh ingredients and homemade syrups, alongside locally brewed beer from Lakes Brew Co., coffee from Farrers, and cakes by Ginger Bakers.
