Another Weigh membership
Another Weigh, the community-focused zero-waste shop tucked into Kendal’s Wainwright’s Yard, is off to a good start in 2026. In the first three days of the new year, the store welcomed six new members as locals embraced sustainable shopping as part of their New Year’s resolutions.
The shop, which operates on a simple refill-and-reuse ethos, invites customers to bring their own containers, fill them with loose food and household products, and pay by weight — a model that reduces packaging and waste while making ethical shopping practical.
Membership at Another Weigh is optional, but those who do join up enjoy a 10% discount on food purchases throughout the year.
It’s easy to sign up for membership at Another Weigh for an annual donation of £30 — or £15 for students and concession holders who show a valid card in store. You can visit the shop’s website or call in. Members can choose a printed credit card-sized membership card or a card that can be saved on a mobile phone.
Anyone shopping at Another Weigh helps amplify the store’s positive environmental impact and deepen its connection to the local community and charity work. Shoppers at Another Weigh, set up by a Cumbrian teenager, Amy Bray, also support her environmental charity, Another Way (same name but spelt differently).
The prominent young environmentalist is the youngest person ever to win Cumbria Women of the Year, at age 17. Amy’s been inspiring youth climate action through local and global conservation projects.
“We love that customers are making shopping with us their New Year’s Resolution,” said Jodie from the Another Weigh team — a sentiment that reflects the shop’s role as a hub for conscious consumption and local engagement.
Whether visitors are stocking up on pantry staples or joining the membership scheme, Another Weigh continues to inspire people to shop sustainably and support a brighter environmental future.
Another Weigh is one of the independent and ethically driven businesses in Wainwright’s Yard, a welcoming retail and eating destination in the heart of Kendal that celebrates local enterprise and community spirit. Visit our retailers page to find out more.
