Multimedia artist Lavinia Haslam showcases latest work at Elsewhere Bar, Kendal

Visitors to Elsewhere Bar in Wainwright’s Yard, Kendal, can now view and purchase a collection of work by multimedia artist Lavinia Haslam from Windermere, with the exhibition running until Sunday 12th July.

One of five artists exhibiting for the first time in the Bar, Lavinia’s work has also appeared in London, Kendal and in venues across England and Europe, as well as featuring on ‘in focus’ with Sky Arts. Working across painting, photography, printmaking and mixed media, her practice explores identity, community, wellbeing and resilience. Her latest exhibition at Elsewhere Bar brings together a diverse collection of work inspired by wild water swimming, place and belonging and with scenes from in around the Lake District. There are a variety of price points from cards and bookmarks to original works.

Lavinia’s work forms part of an ongoing initiative by Elsewhere Bar’s Mark Weighman to showcase local artists. Mark said:

“The idea came about after a local artist pointed out that we had a lot of large bare walls and suggested they could be used to display artwork. Since then, we’ve been delighted to provide a space where artists can share their work with customers and the wider community.

“Lavinia is an incredible artist who has collaborated on projects with Tate Liverpool, the Contemporary Visual Arts Network (CVAN), Lancaster’s King Street Arts and Judges Lodgings Museum, and the University of Lancashire. So, we’re pleased to have her work here in Kendal.”

Alongside Lavinia’s work is an exhibition by Yuliia Achkasova. Yuliia’s experiences, including the impact of the war in Ukraine and relocating to a new country, are reflected in her art expressing hope and support in challenging times.

The exhibition is open to both regular customers and visitors interested in exploring contemporary work by local and regional artists in an informal setting.
