The community-focused zero-waste shop first opened at Wainwright’s Yard in February 2021 and has now extended its lease until July 2032.

Founded by Amy Bray when she was just 17, Another Weigh operates on a simple refill-and-reuse model. Customers bring their own containers, fill them with loose food and household products, and pay by weight. It reduces packaging and waste while making more sustainable shopping practical.

Profits from the shop support Amy’s environmental charity, Another Way, which works to inspire youth climate action through local and global conservation projects.

In renewing its lease, Another Weigh demonstrates the staying power of well supported independent social enterprises and that their role in a thriving modern high street.

Jodie Van Rooyen from the Another Weigh team said:

“The staff at Another Weigh are very pleased to announce this commitment to our wonderful customers old and new. We pride ourselves on listening to them and that’s why we are now open on Mondays. It means customers can get what they need, when they need it which is what we’re all about. Two exceptionally hot, dry summers have perhaps made more people realise that they want to take action to lessen their impact on their environment and we are a great place to start.”

And adding: “Change doesn’t need to be big or expensive to make a difference. We hope to help more Kendal households find sustainable alternatives which suit their needs.”

Wainwright’s Yard is also home to Pizza Express, Booths, Armstrong Ward, Lakeland Kitchen, Lions Charity Bookshop, Elsewhere Bar and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
