Spooky season at Wainwright’s Yard

From supernatural stories and homemade pumpkin treats to a Halloween murder mystery, Wainwright’s Yard has plenty to get you in the spooky spirit this October. Whether you’re planning a Halloween night in, heading out trick-or-treating with the family or fancy putting your detective skills to the test, our shops and businesses have a few ideas to help you make the most of the season.

A murder mystery at Elsewhere Bar

There’s murder in the air at Elsewhere Bar this Halloween! On Saturday 31 October, Elsewhere is hosting Murder in the Sunset Air, a murder mystery evening where you’ll have the chance to solve the crime and claim a reward for cracking the case.
The mystery begins at 7pm, with tickets costing £5 per person. Numbers are limited, so get in touch with Elsewhere Bar to secure your place.

Something wickedly good from Booths

If you’ve been carving pumpkins, don’t throw away all that lovely flesh. Booths has a recipe for Salted Caramel Pumpkin Fudge that’s a delicious way to put it to good use.
Combining pumpkin purée with double cream, butter, mixed spice and a sprinkling of sea salt, it’s a sweet autumn treat that’s perfect for sharing (or keeping to yourself!).

A spine-tingling read from Kendal Lions

There’s nothing quite like a good ghost story on a dark autumn evening. Kendal Lions Bookshop has a supernatural section worth exploring, whether you’re after a classic ghost story, something mysterious or a genuinely chilling read.
And there’s another good reason to browse. Every purchase helps Kendal & District Lions Club raise money for local good causes.

Spooky stories and Halloween treats at Armstrong Ward

Armstrong Ward has plenty to delight younger Halloween fans, with a lovely selection of spooky books, gifts and little surprises.

From There’s a Ghost in This House by Oliver Jeffers to Spooky Celebrations Around the World, there are stories to enjoy together and plenty of Halloween inspiration. Look out for creepy-crawly temporary tattoos and cuddly creatures too, perfect for a little seasonal treat without the sweets.

Treats without the unnecessary packaging at Another Weigh

Halloween can generate a surprising amount of packaging, particularly when it comes to sweets and treats.
At Another Weigh, you can stock up on loose snacks and sweet treats, buying just the amount you need and taking them home in your own reusable containers.
It’s a simple way to cut down on packaging, whether you’re putting together Halloween treats or stocking the cupboard for a cosy night in.
