Located in Wainwright’s Yard, Kendal Lions Shop is your destination for great books and more. Whether you’re looking to donate or find your next read, we’re here to help. By dropping off your unwanted books, or making a purchase you will be providing valuable support to the community.

What We Offer:
– Books: From paperbacks to hardbacks, fiction to non-fiction, our collection covers a vast array of topics including cookery, gardening, thrillers, and children’s novels.
– CDs, DVDs, and Jigsaws: Explore our eclectic selection of donated CDs, DVDs, and puzzles.
– Special Items: Support our cause by purchasing a handmade reusable shopping bag, a Lions mug, or, when available, our signature Lion-shaped mint cake (both brown and white).
– Dementia Support Resources: We also offer a variety of resources to support those affected by dementia.

Message in a Bottle scheme:

This is a free plastic container you can pick up from us with a medical form to complete. This gives emergency services essential information, which means they can quickly start to help the person they have been called out to see. More than six million Message in a Bottle kits has been distributed by Lions Clubs International (MD105) British Isles to people with conditions such as diabetes, allergies, disabilities and life-threatening illnesses. It’s a simple but effective way for people to keep their basic personal and medical details where they can be found in an emergency on a standard form and in a common location – the fridge.

About us:
Kendal & District Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service club organisation with 1.35 million members across 45,000 clubs globally. Celebrating 50 years of dedicated service to the Kendal community, we are committed to making a difference through various charitable projects.

MEET THE RETAILER

Alison Audsley, Kendal & District Lion's President

Led by Alison and supported by volunteers including Chris, Richard, Eileen, Irene, Sue, Colin and Ella, the Lions Secondhand Bookstore is powered entirely by community spirit. Open four days a week, the team sorts, repairs, and shelves donated books, jigsaws and DVDs, all to raise funds for local good causes. Whether they’re researching rare finds or offering a warm welcome to customers, every volunteer brings care, dedication and a shared love of reading. It’s more than a bookshop, it’s a place where people connect, and small purchases make a big difference.
